1961 thunderbird tilt away wheel Sign In

Hey everyone,
My boyfriend recently bought a 1961 Thunderbird in almost perfect condition and he's looking into adding value to the vehicle. Everything in it is 100% original, so he's being careful about preserving that.

Well, this one car doesn't have the tilt-away wheel that is famous in the 1961 'Birds... Everytime we go to a car show or get stopped at places, people ask to see it in action, and I know it's slowly killing him!

Basically, can you buy this tilt-away steering, also known as a "sway-away" steering, and can you have it installed in a fashion that would be close to or as identical as a 'bird that had it originally done? Where could I buy this part? I know it adds a lot of value to the car... But I don't know that it's feasible?

Thanks in advance!

I thought they all had that and not part of an option package. The only way to do this to this car is with an original with original colors or you'll lose points. Better to leave it alone if this car is a real original. If this car is in remarkable original condition you may find original parts from the T-Bird clubs. Some plain Jane originals in remarkable shape are bought up as parts even if like new for restorations of rare models to be kept original as possible,
