Hi all. I bought a 1962 Ford Falcon about a year ago. A few weeks ago I noticed that the car seemed to be idling rough/low at stoplights. I had a shop adjust the carburetor, but this didn't seem to help much and I have found that the only way to get a good idle at stoplights is to have the choke half closed. Even with the choke half closed, the car idled low and stalled out last night. It started up just fine, but now everytime I'm at a red light I worry when it seems to be idling low. Any ideas what this could be?

That indicates the car is running lean for some reason. It could be a bad carb or it could be a vacuum leak.

"New to DIY" - As simple as this car may seem it can still get you in trouble. Doesn't really matter but overwhelming chances this is a 144 or 170 six engine w one barrel carb. Thought most were automatic chokes but who knows who might have done what over the years now?

Most likely as HT said is carb problems or vacuum leaks. Not many toys but plain gasket on bottom of carb to intake manifold and manifold to cylinder head need to be good.

Before getting too detailed on things and ways to check or fix tell us what you have for tools and about what your understanding is that makes an internal combustion engine is all about.

Do you know of any alterations of the original design of the fuel and ignition system?

What is it with which engine and what overall shape now that you know of?

really its irritating car starts this kind of trouble.. You can follow this steps get free from this problem.. a little help from my side... it might help you..
1.Start the engine and run it until the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster reads in the normal range. Turn the engine off.
2.Remove the rubber air duct connecting the throttle body and MAF sensor, using a screwdriver or 8-mm socket and ratchet to loosen the large hose clamps. Unplug the vent tube from its rubber grommet in the duct and lay the duct aside.
3.Clean the throttle body by spraying a liberal amount of the throttle body cleaner into the throttle body around the throttle blade. Allow the cleaner to sit for a few minutes to soften the carbon deposits. Have a helper hold the gas pedal to the floor while you wipe the residue from the throttle body and blade. Repeat this until the throttle is clean.
4.Turn the ignition key off. Unplug the electrical connector from the MAF sensor attached to the side of the air filter housing. Remove the two small torx-head screws, that attach the sensor to the sensor housing, using a T-10 size torx driver. Carefully slide the sensor out of the housing.
5.Spray the exposed sensor wires and sensor disc on the end of the sensor that fits inside the housing, using MAF cleaner. Allow it to dry completely before reinstalling the sensor into the housing. Reinstall the rubber duct and tighten the hose clamps securely. Test drive the Focus to verify that it no longer stalls.
