I haven't! Sh!t I did't think to do that. But I guess we know it most likely stems from there. I did trace the "I" wire to a splice under the dash near the ignition switch. I haven't been able to trace the "S" wire yet.

Don't worry about tracing wires yet. You need to concentrate on testing. Find out what it does with those wires disconnected and we'll go from there.

Okay, since I'm working on this car under an over pass in Brooklyn a mile or so from where I live I don't get to work on her as much as I'd like.
Anyways, I disconnected both terminals, starter still engages. Unimpressed

That solenoid is either bad or wired wrong.

Guess I''ll try popping the old one back in. Everything is wired just as it was when the car was running. That's why I'm so confused. Maybe the solenoid is a dud, I think I read on here somewhere that someone bought like 3 different solenoids before they got one that worked.

The side with the cable that goes to the starter has nothing else attached to it, right?

Right, its on a post by itself and goes to the starter.
Other side is positive cable and alternator.

OK, that cable is hot when it shouldn't be and the solenoid has to be the cause.

Yeah, well that was it. Solenoid was bad, which is weird cause it was brand new outta the box. Never occurred to me a new part would be the issue. Anyways, something is still funky cause a couple dash lights come on when the key's in the "off" position but turn off in the "middle" position. Thanks for the help guys. Now just gotta get her to start drinkin gas again and find out whats up with the headlights.
