trying to find out how to tell the differance between the ford 223 and the 215. the valve cover looks like a 215 but the distributer is farther toward the front like a 223 at least thats what i think. is there something i should be looking for to be able to identify this engine... and was trying to remember where the number one cylender is. the front or the back, i think its the front but not sure any help is appretiated

don't have a vin# yet still looking for it, the tag may have been removed some time ago i am hoping when i get the fenders off it i will find it stamped in the frame, its in a 53 f350 4 spd manual trans but im not sure if it is the original engine, i thought they came with the 3 speed trans. on the column but i could be wrong

Shoot! Can't help much on two counts. My older books don't go back quite to 53 and none are for trucks. Hang in there, someone will know, T

The 'VIN' number should be on the frame, driver's side, just inside of the LF wheel area. Loren SW Washington

been awhile but i did find out it is a 215 and the vin number is on the crossmember under the rad support on the passenger side

If it is a Holley, The number are usually stamped vertically in the metering block which is that section front of the bowl. Please remove the link from your signature ASAP........... advertising not alllowed
