My Car Insurance company (Johnson Insurance) phoned me at work and started asking me confidential questions. First of all verifying info like name, address, birth date but then she dug deeper and asked for more and more info. After 30 minutes of grilling I started to think she was a scam artist and told her I needed to get back to work.

After this, she started to phone my wife every 2 weeks and did the same to her. My wife is easier to scam than me and after 2 months of this we decided to get new insurance.

We found a new company but now Johnson has said that they will bill us for March even though we cancelled on Feb 24 and that there would be a cancellation fee up to possibly 2 months.

There's nothing I see in the policy that says this. Are I getting scammed? We were Johnson customers for 25 yrs and were never treated like this.

btw - is there any reason for an Insurance Company to ask for a copy of your ownerships. They have a direct link to the DMV to verify your info. Why would they need a hardcopy from us?

Insurance legalities are going to vary from place to place. Whole company may have been sold out but kept the name. Most or all US states have an insurance commissioner's office and I would contact them and request any communication from this now old company to be in writing - real snail mail.

Whole thing sounds fishy - don't let it go and personally I wouldn't double pay if you haven't yet mail in no payment stating "in dispute" when you get info from your insurance commissioner. Good luck,

T

Are you sure that you were even talking to the insurance company?

A general rule to follow to prevent being scammed is to never give out personal information over the phone if you were not the one to initiate the call. The world is full of scammers trying to get personal info by pretending to be someone else in a phone call. Something is definitely wrong with that phone call. Legit insurance companies don't act like that.

True HT! This could be a total set up for info gathering - scary. OP - check the phone #'s that are calling YOU if you still have them.

A motor vehicle's tag #s easily lead to who owns it and who insures it. Old fashioned spammers by phone still at it up to a few minutes ago on a phone of my own. Stinks - watch out, T

Even caller ID can be spoofed these days. Never give info out on an incoming call.

I ask who I can call back at what #. If you get hung up on you know it was garbage, T

What I like to do in those situations is ask them to verify the information they have on me. Just my two cents...

Threads kind of old now. If you came by to spam the site for towing not involved with this you won't last long,
