Tranny fluid change in high milage vehicles. Sign In

I hear all the time that you shouldn't change the ATF in high milage vehicles, but what about just draining the fluid in a clean pan and just changing the filter then put the old fluid back in?

And past what milage do you guys think you shouldn't change the fluid?

I can never find much info on this when i look, sure would hate to change the ATF in a customers car then they have tranny problems.Unsure

Alot of times what happends is when you don't stick to a maintmance plan the fluid becomes dirty. This dirt and stuff sits around seals and other parts of the tranny and the dirt sort of acts like a seal. when you flush out the old fluid it can create lower pressures and can cause seals to leak and other stuff like that.

I see what you mean. i guess if it was changed regularly like it should have been then its ok to change it.

I just believe that you should change all fluids in a machine.
