I have a 2003/53 plate Honda Jazz S 1.4, 91.000 miles. It seems to have the known common fault of gearbox bearings, when it's stopped in nautral it makes a grinding (like metal on metal) noise with a kind of chugging sound. When I put my foot on the clutch it stops. When it's moving it makes the grinding and chugging noise in low gears and again stops if I put my foot on the clutch. It also has an occasional high pitch screech while moving. It's a lot better when the weather is warm and I would go so far as to say it almost stopped during our heatwave but now it's wet and miserable it's started again. It drives fine though, there's no jumping or anything.

I want to keep the car as it flies through the MOT each year but I'm looking at £500 to buy a 2nd had gearbox and have it fitted which I can't afford at the moment so I was wondering if there's any gearbox oils and additives that will expand the life of the gearbox and make it run quieter?

I'm in the UK (if that makes any difference). Thanks in advance for any advice!
