I just bought a 2002 saturn sc coupe and am wondering since it is an older car while doing an oil change should I use the manufacturers specified oil or a different grade as someone at work said I should do. The manufacturer says to use 5w30 and there is 130,000km on it.

Don't deviate from the manufacturers requirements. There are reasons for them.

Keep up with all original product suggestions and time not just miles/kilometers. I do suggest by now check fluid levels manually if a couple are supposed to give early warnings like check oil level many can quit the warning so make a habit of checking youself + note the time/kms for how much if any used and if that changes,
