I have a Mini Cooper 1.5 L 2016, 2 door hardtop, the oil filler cap states recommended oil is 5-30, although the manual states a list of about 6 other oil weights as usable. So, I'm new to 0-20, which is on the list in the manual. I'd like to change to the 0-20 as I have another car, 2015 Chrysler 200C 4cyl which uses 0-20. I live on the North/South Carolina state lines, the average winter temp is 50 degree F. Since I'm completely unfamiliar with 0-20 synthetic I can't decide, as well as is the recommended oil standard oil or synthetic?

Unless filler cap isn't for that car go with the 5-30 synthetic. Many sold in 5 qt. plastic isn't that costly. It still should be changed on time IMO just superior oil especially heat tolerant doesn't lose itself to sludge!

If listed it's up to you. Lots of newer cars are using 0-20 I'd only go synthetic then. It's just slightly thinner viscosity when cold and 20 weight (viscosity) when warmed up. There's isn't a problem if engine is tight enough and many are will do just fine. Watch oil pressure now on cold starts and where it is when warm and idling. Watch again with the new oil you might even shoot up to normal range fast and still hold normal better that what you are changing out.
Repeat though - change it out as per exact suggestions in the manual. Don't believe claims of now seen up to a whole year without regard to miles. Time intervals count too or watch out if not close you really could void engine from warranty,

If the engine is designed to run on 0w-20 at the specified ambient temperatures, there are no cons. Running a lighter weight oil creates less drag on the engine oil pump which may help increase fuel economy. How much better fuel economy is probably negligible in my opinion. It also helps with cold engine starting with getting oil to components quicker.
