I recently purchased a 2004 midsize infiniti with 100K miles. So I wanted to clean the injectors and after some research I came to the conclusion that the Lucas Fuel Treatment is a good option and later thought to do a seafoam treatment. I added ~4 oz to 17 gallons of fuel. My fuel efficiency went down from 22 MPG to less than 10 MPG initially but then gradually came back up to about 15 MPG. Once half tank I filled up with fuel and the efficiency went up to about 20 MPG. In an infiniti forum some guys told me to use BGK44 from now on and I just did that. After refueling completely with BGK44 the fuel efficiency went up slightly to 21 MPG but never back to what it was initially. Does anyone know what happened and if I may need to replace somethings, fuel filter, injector ... ?

Comments: I haven't noticed a change in MPG using periodic only "Techron" fuel treatment but also my own personal vehicle use isn't conducive to accurate assessment of true MPGs - too many short trips, extended warm up time so you can see and so forth.

If the solvents are working they could reduce efficiency IMO while cleaning up as if it were straight engine would barely run on it.

I do believe periodic use can help prevent problems but not as often as the marketing on containers. As a cure when a real problem comes along, fuel system parts may need replacement or professional cleaning.

If you are up to date with periodic maintenance you shouldn't need to do this often IMO.

Also - it's easy in one tank to get an inaccurate MPG # due to pumps that shut off early or later and an assortment of variables. It's hard to believe that 4oz of a treatment in 17 gals of fuel would cut mileage in half!
