2004 Kia Sorento 2.5 diesel - Engine Problem

I bought a 2004 Kia Sorento 2.5 diesel second hand. I did a total of 220km and the vehicle stopped without warning or engine noise. Accoding to the garage the following is damaged big end bearing, main bearings, gasket set, thermostat, crankshaft, conrods timing gears. I was advised to replace the piston and rings as well. They advised that the timing gear was missing a tooth and this had possibly blocked off an oil gallery starving the crankshaft of oil and causing the bearing to catch and then disintegrate.
My question is can all this damage be done in 220km or would the damage be prior.

All of the Kia's in the US where this site is based are gasoline engines, so never seen a diesel from them and not sure how their particular motor is put together. You're being given an estimate for an overhaul. I have never seen a diesel where a timing set can block oil flow, especially with a missing tooth being the justification. The diesel engines I have always worked on are priority main lubrication systems due to the high loads placed on them. Timing sets are secondary.
If they are alleging that a missing tooth from a gear blocked an oil gallery that is possible. If wouldn't have given you any warning. Thing is, an engine starving of oil pressure will turn on warning lights on the dash, have reduced power before it locks up, and make a hell of a racket. You say it made no noise. If the connecting rods themselves need to be replaced then that would mean a bearing spun inside the rod end. That doesn't happen without noise.
I would wonder if the timing set went out and that is all that stopped this from running. That would shut you down fast with little to no noise. It may be worth getting a second opinion before you commit to this repair.
