2006 Pontiac Vibe Questions

Hi all, I have a 2006 Pontiac Vibe AWD 1.9L engine. It has 75,500 miles on it. Very little highway mileage. I was wondering when I should have the auto tranny fluid changed (it's shifting without issues as I write this) timing belt (if it has one) and spark plugs (the car has good power)? Thank you so much in advance for the help. Roger

I don't know if this is a US car or not but the only engine I see available in that car is a 1.8. As far as your trans service, definitely ASAP. I recommend about ever 40K.

I only show a 1.8 and is a chain. No service interval was suggested where I looked. If you change oil, avoid running it when things are wrong IMO you can leave it alone. Always follow owner's manual for PM items and go by what it will say "severe use" which is anything from lots of short trips to extreme temps or any use other than being in a museum IMO,

Hey folks, thanks for the reply. Fat fingers, it's a 1.8L engine.  I guess I should look at the owners manual (such an unmanly thing to do)  and see what it has to offer.

Good ole Toyota engine and transmission in a GM vehicle. Four or five speed automatic? 40 or 50K mark is a good time to change the transmission fluid. Personally I would drop the pan and change the fluid filter screen and look at the bottom of the pan for anything abnormal. Takes Toyota T-IV fluid. Also inspect the transfer case and differential fluid levels. If they aren't leaking, they should be full.
Spark plugs in those usually go well beyond the 100 K mark, but you could remove one and inspect it for excessive electrode wear.
I would definitely do a coolant system flush on that one. I don't care what GM states about the coolant not needing service for 5yrs or 150K. That is way too long for any coolant, especially Dex-sludge. Most of those coolants don't get to that point anyway because something usually ends up leaking...LOL

I feel differently about the trans service. I'm not too concerned with the filter as it is usually just a screen and if the transmission is having no issues, it will be clean anyway. The problem with doing it that way is that you leave more than half of the old fluid in there. I recommend a complete fluid replacement with a flush machine although it doesn't actually flush. It just replaces all the fluid. Actually doing both would be the best thing you could do.
