2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Low Oil Pressure Light Won't Go Out Sign In

Hi -

I'm not an auto expert. Just want some opinions on what to do next/what expenses could be, as we are in financial trouble like you wouldn't believe, and trying to figure out whether to repair now or wait and limp along.

A couple days ago, my wife noticed the low oil pressure light came on our 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe (110,000 miles on it). So, I checked the oil. It was low. So, I added a couple quarts. No puddles underneath, so it's not a leak. Checked that several times, just to be sure.

No problem. The light goes off. Then, tonight, it came back on again. So, I checked the oil again. Pretty much at the same level I left it after adding the 2 quarts (not quite full). I added another quart because there appeared to be enough room for one more.

The low oil pressure light comes back on again!

So, I don't know what's going on.

If it helps, we live in WI, and it has plummeted to between -10 and 10 above, or so, the last several days. I know cold weather makes cars do weird things sometimes.

What do you suppose could be the issue here? What are my next steps?

Appreciate all your insights,

Dan

You don't have the luxury of waiting or putting off the repair. It could be as simple as a bad gauge sender or it could really have no oil pressure which would mean if you run the engine at all you will be buying a new engine.

You can compare oil pressure to your heart pumping. When it stops, you die so don't drive it, TOW IT to a shop to be checked out.
