Hello,
I am having a query about air bags provided in cars. I have heard that the air bags which are meant for safety purpose are not totally safe for children and in some cases even for adults. Is it so? If it is so, what are situations in which it causes injury?

Things that move and carry people are by nature not 100% safe.
I default to instructions first for each vehicle proper safety procedures first. Adults or "children" I'll factor height and body weight as the most important issue with collisions/accidents. Children to a certain weight/height are always suggested to ride in back seats of cars and of course there are cars and trucks that don't have back seats at all.
Many pick up trucks only have one seat and a keyed switch to turn OFF passenger's side air bag if thought to be more of a hazard than benefit.
The real impact of an accident is the passenger against interior parts of the car. Air bag are placed where a person would most likely strike to cushion that impact.
It's a powerful force so if one is NOT wearing the belt(s) or properly that impact could be worse than the accident itself.
This is so carefully engineered vehicle by vehicle as to what situation and when now which ones should go off it's back to unique to each vehicle.
True still as far as I know that very light weight or smaller adults have had modifications made just for them and no doubt as owner drivers only.
Perhaps search on more on the web or stop by a car/truck dealer OR read info on the safety equipment of the vehicle(s) involved for suggestions, sites, options you can do for special situations and there are for sure including vehicles totally altered for handicapped people unique to each level and type of handicap. I know places exist that specialize in just that but not directly involved with it,

There should be information about that in the vehicle owner's manual.

First of all I am very sorry to reply back so late as i was out of station. Ok, thanks for all your information provided. Further i have some additional information related to Air Bag etc., which i would like to share with u all, nowadays Airbags That Help Stop Cars, Augmented Reality Dashboards, Cars That Communicate With Each Other & The Road, Energy-storing Body Panels, Hybrid Vehicles and Self-driving Cars are all future technologies of [Links removed] Car World/Automobile World , which seems to be not more than a dream. However one of them has already turned into reality, which is Hybrid Vehicles. What is your opinion about others?
