Am i being paranoid? Sign In

I just received my 1993 Dodge Ram van 1500 from the mechanic and something doesn’t seem right and im hoping someone can shed some light on this. The van had power but wouldn’t start and I was getting a “NO BUS” message. Had it towed to the mechanic and was told it needed a new fuel pump. Couple days later I get another call informing me it kept stalling after the new fuel pump was put in and it needs a new PCM. I was charged for both the fuel pump and PCM and labor for both. Question is am I crazy for thinking they misdiagnosed the problem as a bad fuel pump and after installing a new one realized it was the PCM? Did I get charged for the misdiagnosis? Also states on the bill after the new fuel pump was installed I then had a functioning fuel gauge but my fuel gauge had always worked fine.
Second question is the new used PCM they claim was gotten from a junkyard looks just like my old one they claimed they replaced. Is there any way to find out if this is in fact the same PCM they claimed to have replaced? Is that possible based on serial and part numbers? Thanks in advance for any help

You could be right but at this point there is no way to prove that. Both PCM's will have the same part number. Most junkyards will write on their parts with yellow or blue liquid marker to identify their parts for warranty so you might look for that. The receipt states that they had power at the fuel pump but no fuel pressure which would indicate a bad pump if they are telling the truth about that.

The "no bus" warning is telling you that there was a communication problem with one of the modules. Hard to say which one was to blame.
