Auto Shifter/Tranny Isnt Catching Gear Sign In

I have a '72 GMC pick up, 350, V8 where I recently drained tranny pan, replaced gasket/filter and resecured pan. I added 3-4qt of fluid, cranked car and let heat up for 10-15min or so. I checked dipstick and it is bone dry. Tried to put in reverse and nothing happened. I put it in drive and nothing happened. The truck will not catch gear; its as if it is in neutral/park in every mode. Truck reacted great in any gear before I did this. What is the problem? Please help me! Frown

What's the question. You don't have enough fluid in it.

May I suggest next time measure what came out so you have a clue what to put back. It isn't always the same or by the book by doing that. Don't overfill either,
