Hello all, I'm trying to identify the parts in the photo, which I believe are auto parts. They appear to be stainless steel, they are very heavy, hollow on the inside (diameter of hole = 2" to 2.5"), and approximately 4" tall.

They are being used as ice cream cone holders, and are sturdy enough to hold a standard sugar cone with two scoops on top upright.

Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Tam

What parts? I hope you're not expecting us to see something in that avatar.

Forgive my ignorance as a forum newbie. Can you tell me how to attach a larger photo?

I was indeed hoping you could see the parts in the avatar.

Thank you . . .

Link it to something like PhotoBucket.com is easier than using this site. Been here 10 years now and still has flaws. Way it goes.

Plenty of volunteer techs here to help with whatever it is. Suggestions/Inquiries or you can help if you want. Let the band play on......

Thanks for your help, Tom. Here is the photo a little bit bigger. Note: These are sitting on top of a counter, the small-scale person in the middle is several feet behind the parts.

Those are nothing I recognize. The picture makes them look much larger than what you're describing.

Ditto - if you need a part identified you need to show just the part and say what it goes to or we will be lost...........

Re: Can you tell me what these parts are? Sign In

Sorry, this is the only photo I've got. I have an ice cream business, and a friend stumbled upon these at an ice cream shop in another state and provided me with one cell phone picture. I know it's not ideal, but this friend was attempting to capture as much detail as possible in the photo and shot it at eye level.

I'm not actually seeking to use these contraptions as auto parts, in fact, I'm not even sure that they are auto parts - they could be custom designs created with a CNC machine. I've taken this photo to a plumbing supply warehouse and several hardware stores, all felt that they resembled auto parts.

As such, I thought it might be useful to show it to a bunch of car guys to see if anyone had a clue as to what these parts actually are.

I do appreciate any help on this wild goose chase. I'm just a stupid ice cream maker that knows nothing about cars.

Thanks again . . .

No harm intended but just state what a problem is that effects what and we have a chance. At best we are guessing without a vehicle in front of us but do pretty dang good at that game.

The web is helpful but can't compete with hands on work or looking at things,

Those are hydraulic parts. I think one is a ram piston and the other a spool valve. They would've come from something along the lines of a dozer or excavator.

Are there any markings on them? One looks like an ash tray and the other the Stanley cup.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks, Nick. That's helpful, perhaps I'll send the photo to a heavy construction equipment repair shop and see what they know.

Discrete, no markings were found on either part. I was thinking the one on the left looks like a lightsaber handle . . .
