Choosing Lug Nuts

Hi, did a quick search and didn't find the info I am looking for. I have a chrysler 300 2010 touring with the OEM 17 inch Wheel, most of the lug nuts cap are starting to slip/ being damage so I decided to replace them.I went with Dorman Acorn lug nuts on rock auto, that are listed under my model. Now the OEM Nuts are dome cap and I compared them when replacing them. The Dome cap have double surface compared to the new acorn I got. From the look of it, the Acron should do fine, they match the hole size and still look like the touch surface area is close to the old one. The dome cap have a deformation that is about 1/2 the base that indicate to me that this is the part that touch the wheel properly. So the question is more for piece of mind, should I be worried about the new nuts having less surface on the wheels ?

WORRY A LOT ABOUT LUG NUTS! If not right and old ones were toss any in question forget end costs you risk wheels and the disaster of losing a wheel by surprise is always unacceptable. Your call find a dealer for the right set or trusted aftermarket the quality plain matters. Watch out for things with chrome look if a cover or solid part that was plated some assorted vehicles came new with had to toss those. I doubt a new car dealer would sell you that type again if so hard to know if new chrome falls off some you don't have the right wrench with you that came with the car nor will they match the others is it's own nightmare. Model year would help at some age question what you are replacing to be right still? Make it right, T

Hi, tx for your reply, I took a further look at them, turn out the line I see on the original nuts are from my winter rim, and I can see the original nuts touch the whole surface due to dust and rust line. guess I have nuts for winter now and will order new one for my summer rims.

OK, I did just notice it's a 2010. Still now you have two sets of rims, understood, so alternate rims non OE still should match or how those acquired should know they are somehow different how they work if so. I can't know that just that all I do know use same lug nuts/bolts if the case for either match the vehicle's specs so doesn't mess up the show always must be safely done. That's all and I just have a thing about on-line ordering stuff yet do this I want to be there. Same with my own stuff some hold trim parts on lug nuts but others would be safe only, hidden on one set not the other when you care. That's it just make sure there's no issue not just some dang sales bull to push items from sell crap no matter what garbage it's too much on even me sifting thru the BS! Tom

Yes, there is a lot of difference between the wide seat and the narrow seat nuts. If you use a narrow seat where a wide one was needed it will dig a hole in your rim. They are mainly for steel wheels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
