Hi I found a set of alloy wheels that fit my car, so how do i go about testing them, 'cos they're not new rims. What tests can i do to check that they're not defective/cracked/warped/were from a car in an accident, etc? Thanks

I'd put them on a high speed wheel/tire balancer without tire to see them spin and careful visual inspection for defects - warped/not true would be my first worry with used wheels and while doing this they could be wire brushed/cleaned if sealing surface tire to rim is corroded - that happens in the rust belt too much, T

If find they could be warped more than cracks over ions of them. I suppose if I was really worried I'd consult with a tire specialty shop or perhaps put them submerged in dyed water (tires off) and rinse and wipe. Residual dye may come out of a crack and reveal itself. Machine shops have tricks to find flaws as they routinely to for engine parts, T

Thanks for your response. How do I determine if the rim has cracks? what's the best, easiest, & quickest methods? The quickest, and best method would be Eddy Current inspection. Don't have the training or equipment for that, then try Liquid (Dye) Penetrant. Other than those, you could examine the wheels under high magnification (10x or greater). If it were me, I'd do the Eddy Current method. sig removed

If you find rust on the rims then you know there not alloy, alloy rims are not suppose to rust. Just thought I would add this in case you found rust or the person wasn't being completely up front with you.
