Need an Opinion On A Used Car Sign In

My son is looking at an 2007 Mazda 3 hatchback, has the option of automatic or manual, I'm an manual guy but I read polarizing reviews for each setup on the car. Some have had great and horrible experiences with both, seems like "07 wasn't their year. Just wanted to see if anyone has had experience with the car. thanks!

I'd take the manual any day. How old is your kid? How proficient is he with driving a manual? How hard is he on a car? If he likes to rod on cars he'll break either setup, but its cheaper to put a new clutch into it than rebuild an automatic if it comes to that. No matter what you do, how well you drive it and maintain it, every automatic will go out. Its the nature of the beast. I've seen a few cars with very high miles still have the original clutch. I owned one myself that I used to own. The odometer quit working at 250,000 miles, I drove it a year after that and sold it to a guy who got a few years out of it til he crashed it. Never a clutch problem. Just depends how you drive it.

I'm with you, get the stick. Also keeps all his friends and girlfriends from borrowing it and crashing it. Most kids now can't drive one.

Well, it really doesn't matter if it is an automatic or manual if the vehicle is driven like a car in Gran Turismo. One problem with a manual is there is more of a chance of over revving the engine and blowing out the bottom end. Either way, if the vehicle is going to last it has to be respected and not hammered on all the time. Both my vehicles are manuals. There are times I which I had an automatic, such as when the GF is given me a crotch exam or when I'm trying to hold my beer while shifting at the same time...Wink

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I like the idea of his friends not borrowing it....about the crotch exam...not too sure how to react to that one but I guess that has to do with the girlfriend borrowing it? haha
