Need expert opinions Sign In

Hi all. I'm looking to buy a work van and only have about $10,000 to spend. I'm looking at ford, gmc, Chevrolet 150-350(1500-3500)series vans. Looks like in my area with that price, I'm looking at either like a 2000-2003 with 65,000mi-75,000mi.....or like a 2005-2008 with 95,000-105,000 miles on it....ill be towing a trailer sometimes too...so my question is do you think it's better to have the older vehicle with less miles, or the newer vehicle with more miles? Thanks for any help

? You seem pretty open to any load range so question is how much towing of what comes into play? Heavy trailer and van heavily loaded you want more than the 1/2 ton rating of any you listed.

Used is always just that and think with that $$ you can get something decent. Condition is always everything when used now of the 3 makes mentioned. Find a place with a selection or search one by one. It all matters, age, miles, rust situation if applicable, history of use, collisions if any and can do what you need.

Any - do make it part of the deal to have it independently checked out PRE PURCHASE by a shop not involved with the seller and able to find any known problems before hand.

Personally I'd avoid fleet vehicles that has assorted use and drivers vs privately owned before. Could be quite the hunt for a decent prior work vehicle with demonstrated care for it,

The difference between 75K and 105K is almost no difference at all. Concentrate more on the condition of the vehicle rather than the small mileage difference. It's not uncommon for the higher mileage vehicle to be the one in better condition.

be sure to have it looked at by a professional technician.
the cost will be well worth it.
