Well it seems noone wants to admit that they race or even speed in this case... I guess its those new traffic lights we see around with the cameras on top....

Like motorheadII said my racing days are also long done with. Back in the early 90’s I was involved as a sponsor and wrench at a local toilet bowl track, you know just flush your money down the drain and remember to turn left. LOL
We did well took rookie of the year and third over all. After three years and a lot more money I dropped out there just wasn’t enough recognition at that level to keep spending the time and effort.
I won’t talk about my street racing days, it was a lot of fun but probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever done, let alone all the laws I broke doing it.
With that being said I now have a 18 year old son that has a need for speed and I’ve been helping him with a bit of a project car.
We started with a complete body, suspension and safety related restoration and now we’re going after the drive train.
Changing out the stock Pontiac 301cu” and putting in a Chev 357 cu” (350 bored .040 over standard), 700 R trans and a set of 3:73 diff gears. Can you say gitty up, with the cam and heads we should be pushing somewhere around 350 horse and with a little juice who knows what it’ll do.
I know it’s not a lot of horse power for today’s standards but I’m talking old school design and it will be more then enough for an 18 year old kid for the street. He also knows that if I catch him street racing he will loose his left testy, he does however have full permission to spend as much time as he likes at the local ¼ mile track.
Here’s his/ours 79 Firebird.

I'm now the Lincoln Town Car type 1980s - areodynamics of a snow plow but comfortable! Nice big trunk too!
Just fun - I had my day with fast cars, Best one was a 1968 Cougar XR7 - GTE "R" code factory 427 that would leave scraps of fiberglass out of any Vette! They only made about 500 of those TMK. Absolutely frietening acceleration! Back then we measured 0-60MPH. Never did know with that car as your watch got G forced to your arm pit!!
Chevy made a Z-27 about the same time known to be just as scary with a Chev 302 (small block Chev) that put out over 500 HP! No Typo Z-27!
Chrystler has some fast stuff too. Never drove any though. AMC had a Hornet SC 1970 that would blow it's own fenders off. Very few of them made. I believe it's engine was factory by International Harvester!
Just fun from the past.

That reminds me of a little American Motors car called a Rogue. It wasn't sporty looking, just a 2-dr sedan and had a 290 cid 4v and 4 spd trans. Mach 1s and Camaros couldn't touch it in a quarter mile. Mid 70s, I think.
