Should I spend the money on this old car Sign In

I recently bought a 1999 chevy prizm for 200 dollars (friend price). The car has 250,000 miles on it. It does not burn oil, it starts ok and runs good. But, the shocks need to be replaced, it has some exhaust noise, I haven't checked what is causing that but there is a hole in muffler or exhaust, it pulls a little to the left and I guess needs an alignment, and it's going to need four new tires within months. Even if I had a mechanic I know do the shocks and alignment, and he would charge me less than a service center, I am looking at around a thousand dollars for all this. The body has some rust, and it was recently in a hail storm so the body looks somewhat like a golf ball now. The seats have some stains and a few rips but dashboard is nice. I have no intention of doing body work on car, just wondering if I should spend around a thousand dollars to make car more safe and mechanically sound. Should I spend the money or sell car for anything I can get and buy something else? If I buy something else my budget would be about $1,500 What should I do?

My vote would be to dump the car and buy something else. At that mileage there are a lot more things that are going to fall apart and once you have committed $1000, you will be committed to spend more when it comes up. Bottomless pit comes to mind.
