Not sure what you want to do. Have you checked out what is available for hot rod type projects where many need custom gauges and things?

I want to make it like the old cars. The speedometer in the middle an the other gauges to the sides. The way it is now I have to move my hand and look to the side to see how fast I'm going.

This won't be all that easy as you may know. The biggest obsticle may be getting an accurate speedometer or the parts needed to adjust it to match the actual speed. What I imagine you would be doing is taking all the original stuff out making a metal or wood panel that you can make holes in and place the various gauges where you like.

No to bust your bubble but 1984 is a tough year to change things. 1983 and older seems to be the cut off model year for messing with a vehicle - at least where I live. Anything that could effect safety or emissions would make that vehicle illegal for street use here. Bummer but that's the way it is and no doubt other states and places will follow suit. I'm still waiting to see if they will just exempt vehicles 25 model years old as they have here for a very long time or whether they stick with just the 1983-1984 marker. Here, 25 model years but the calendar year counts makes the vehicle an antique and I've registered them that way as insurance drops to about $100 a year and they only glance at lighting and the crudest basics to allow the vehicle to be street legal.

The Hot Rod folks are forever finding #s from some old vehicle that are off the radar screen and basically just build what they want from some old serial numbers.

All is not lost if you are up for this. Take a look at what they do for marine and RV dash panels. There are standardized sizes for holes you cut in wood or metal and the gauges just fit in or are made to surface mount.

Some companies that make this stuff are Stewart-Warner, Tempo and no doubt others. I made up some addition gauges/instuments for then a new 1989 boat missing three items I really wanted and with no additional space in its existing dash I just cut wood to match and added below the dash so it looked as it might if made that way new.

The stuff I'm used to did have lighting so they could be seen at night and adjusted thru the vehicle's dimmer which is not used in any marine stuff that I've noticed.

You'll find what you need at marine/RV and hot rod places with no doubt.

Good luck with it,

T
