Nascar dodged a bullit with the jet dryer incedent. All those red fire trucks pumping water on a JP-8 fire was totally wrong . Luckily they were able to get the upper hand by sheer volume. The way to fight a jet fuel ,or even a diesel fire is with FOAM. Such a fire will "Float" on top of water . The water can actually help spread the fire. Foam will cover and smother the fire. With foam the fire would have been out in minutes.If the crash had happened in front of the stands ,or worst case the driver was knocked out and the flameing wreck had gone full throttle into the infield . Hundreds of gallons of hi test , plus, dozens of semi /motor homes ,most with hundred or more gallons of diesel..An airport type crash truck could prob handle the entire event. Ive have been to military aviation fire school and I have seen first hand what can happen. IMO LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

I was surprised by that one too. AFFF should've been mandated and I thought it was for such an event. When I worked tugboats had to go to marine firefighter training, probably quite similar to your avionics version. We carried a stock of the stuff on board per Coast Guard regs. Why a multi-billion dollar industry such as NASCAR would skimp on what would cost under $10,000 is beyond me. Would've thought their insurance carrier alone would mandate it.

I actually thought it was pretty cool to see that thing burn. I was hoping for a large explosion and for it to leave a crater in the 10 million dollar repaved track. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
