The lock is working fine but the door is not closed all the way and wont open so its open just a crack to see that the a black bar looking piece of metal is going across in the latch that looks like the problem. It looks like I will have to take the panel off from the inside to fix this. any other help would be great

Try this without wrecking anything: Lift UP on the latch end of the door with a helper if needed just a hunch it will open. It's possible to be so worn at hinges just too much weight is on the door latch. If that works pins at hinge or new hinges the best fix. Other is lower that black hoop AYOR you may chip paint or make it worse? T

Did you try lifting the weight of the door UP and either outside or inside get it to release? If a lock rod or actuator on some (not these to me) freezes or corroded can pull this. If you have some view also try spraying harmless lubes of silicone sprays, WD-40 and butt bump door once open of course best. If you have nothing else about it that will get it open one more time before really trashing a door panel see if a local body repair shop can help. There are goofy tools to access just the right items to do the least damage. This is from lack of routine lubing hinges and latches not mentioned in service of a car/vehicle but about NEVER happens if you do. Other is damage you aren't aware of somehow? Last for now - some REAR doors have a feature to prevent inside handle from opening doors if set 1/2 way those don't open. IDK if done on this look at the other side for clues. I just can't know specific details on every model of everything ever made - done several of those without wrecking anything but did take quite a while of fussing then find out WHY latch as a whole has been some of the problems that do this, T ** I'll take out dual posts. This site does that if you hit "reply" and ready may read an error code. Ignore that and come back your post is there ***

OK: You also have the other side door is or should be a mirror image of what that one is can see it work while open fool it to latch without the hook/post used in almost anything. Jaws should be spring loaded to be open only stay park closed then fully closed is the norm. This isn't some specialty of mine just been there, done that for emergencies or gave up in a dented door or reason for it to do that. Most just got real sticky can't release. Now: It just can't be universal how to deal with it if you just can't? A body shop with a stuck door to replace would cut it off if door wasn't to be used again. It stinks to get panels off with door closed near impossible. Does a 3-D diagram exist to know where to push or pull? Maybe. I'd be looking at the other side to see how and what rods do what try to save it but at the cost of lots of time. The skinny is if you can and have the time see the other side exactly how it works then where you can use wire or creations of tools push or pull on maybe a rod that broke off without finishing works for either inside or outside for this? Stinks - wish you luck but know of NO total magic for this mess, Tom

You will get nowhere messing with the outside of the latch itself. This has to be released from the inside. It sounds like you got the door lock jammed in the lock position. You may have to do some damage to the door panel to get this open. Keep trying to jiggle the lock and the inside and outside door handles. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
