Jim - you can almost memorize that or should by now. That will open the forum right up and if you are not logged in on that computer the whooosy line with "main index" at one end and "log in or out" above the Amsoil name will let you know if you are a guest or signed in. I keep it on a FAV list which I know won't show from another puter,

It's just I'm lazy and its easier to just type carjunky then select carjunky.com at the very top...
today ,it won't let me do that for some reason....either google or yahoo....etc...

I just saved the url to my favorites and have very little trouble. SOmetimes it does not load, but usually if I leave the site and come back a little later it is OK. But I am running windoes vista and it sucks.

When I logged in selecting "Don't use cookies", I could read forums, but not start a new thread.

After logging in several times that way and getting the same result, I then tried logging in selecting "Remember Me" (requires cookies), and voilĂ , I was able to post a new thread.

I think the "Don't use cookies" option was not actually logging me in, because I did not see the "Log out" link until I had logged in selecting "Remember Me".

Why would there be an option to log in without using cookies if you don't actually get logged in?

Arggh! I'm bookmarked to the site so it's always one click and should know as I've been here a while. Check this page....

http://autoforums.carjunky.com/

That's the main page for forums. If you are logged in to the right will say log out. If you are out it will say log in. If just your device/computer you can just stay logged in. If public or don't want others in but they could just register anyway than log out when you leave.

I know there are some choices which back in 2004 and 2005 were meant so dial up folks with slow connections could navigate with a different view. That would show a little green box to post in. If done right with a real device/computer you should get a full view.

I start at the "Auto Repair Home" and you see all the different areas to play with and yellow flags mean you haven't read them yet and unless you want to go nuts there will always be some there. Then there's "Edit Profile" so make sure you've enable what you wish. I wouldn't put a personal email address in there as they used to show. There have been adjustment over the years and even I don't know them all. We used to have non logged in "Guest" posting which actually confused things. By having to register any dang user name that isn't taken it keeps the site clean as it can get spammed. That can wreck a good thing.

There's nothing nasty in here and even moderators can't know who you are. Free to use and the ads pay the bills. We are all volunteers BTW!

If that link I posted above doesn't just take you to the home page than something is wrong on your end. Settings? TMK this site wouldn't be on any parental block list - it's just regulars and anyone who wants to come and even make comments on an ongoing thread if you wish. I believe you can edit your own posts but not others for sure or it would be a mess.

If you still have trouble hit back or someone else here with higher "Geek IQ" than I might know. Owner is only around once in a while.

Remember your password like anything else. If you lost it ask for a new one and you can change it to whatever from that.

Hope that helped,

T

Tom was correct about what's happening to you. The "do not accept cookies" option really only applied to guest posting which we do not have any more so you really have to use cookies now.

Tom, well, i'm new but can already see I'll be staying on this site a long time. Problem I have is, I am working on a 93 Ford Taurus, trying to remove a timing chain cover from a 3.8 liter 6 banger. So, i'm signed up and trying to figure out how to find any thread to such discussion, such as, "I broke the timing cover and one third is in place, with engine studs still running through the cover and the left half came off, broken in half and then 'what the heck do you do type of question'. Can you lead me to an area where someone must have dealt with this?

If you can't find what you're looking for in the archives, just go to the correct category and start a new question of your own. Even if you find something in archives, that is "read only". Don't post to an old thread.

Here is a link to the page to start a new thread in the engine section.
