We discovered water pools under the front passenger side carpet and padding/insulation but cannot find a source for the leak. After a good rain the pools form again, so there is a leak somewhere running down the front passenger side.

HELP!

Has anyone had this problem before?

Any suggestions on where to look?

It's almost always the windshield. For a test try useing good painter's tape around windshield and if it stops that it!! Voila. You'll need some help from a glass place as if that's so windshield should be removed and that's tricky without breaking it, T

Sorry to disagree with a moderator, but that problem is most commonly caused by a stopped up drain tube in the cowl air intake. (I just joined this forum because my '89 Trooper recently developed this problem.)

In most cars we can get to the tube from the top and clear it ourselves. Not, however, in the older Troopers. You would need a cutting torch to reach the top of the tube. And there's no way I'm aware of to discover the lower terminus of the tube and blow it out from there. The only way to find the lower opening is oral history - someone who knows has to tell you where it is.

If that someone drops by, rey at cstone dot net would appreciate the help.

This is an ancient thread - the tape test at least rules that out. It's a 1990 - way plenty old enough especially if in a rust belt area for the metal to fail. Most good glass shops can still seal that if so. It can be a few things but if you know one that's common to a specific vehicle as said above, we appreciate it for archives,

Pouring a jug of water into the cowl vent and watching it drip onto the passenger side floor told the story on this one. Occurs to me I can do that to the driver side cowl, which does not leak, look for where the water exits underneath, and try to find a matching exit on the right.

Something to do when the Trooper sheds the 16" of snow that fell overnight.

Right - if leaking down by cowl it would not be the windshield if water was poured down as you said,
