My 2000 Ford Explorer has a rough idle every time it rains and starts. Very slow to accelerate and almost feels like its going to shake and breakdown. Check engine light comes on after raining and accelerating just to get to 30 mph. Garages dont know whats wrong. could it be something improperly mixing, water getting in engine?? Frustrated not being able to drive normal in rain!!

How long has it been since it has had a complete tune up?? Sounds like the moisture is breaking down a plug wire. Please include any recent repairs that have been done trying to correct this problem. The more information we have, the more we can help. Also since the check engine light comes on, what is the code number that is stored in the computer?

had a partial tune up last time. error codes came up saying a cylinder was misfiring, other than that, they know nothing about what is going on. dont know the code number off hand. how serious is the plug wire problem, if that is what is going on. car runs fine, once it runs for awhile after a rain. Why is this so?

It probably is a plug wire or other high voltage spark problem. If you mist the engine with tap water (cool engine) you'll probably see the arching of spark where the problem is.

What's a "partial" tune up?
