Inspection runs out this month and it comes home from the highway with a cracked on the edge of the windshield ,not repairable. My trusty garage referred me to someone and I told them that from my experience it seemed if it wasn't a quality windshield or if you went with "the cheapest place " you would have complaints about the wipers even if they were new because the water wasn't beading away .I had that problem before after replacing a windshield and a type of sealer/treatment for the glass would improve it but only for a few months . He said he's never heard of that , have any of you had problems with "cheap" windshields ??

Nope, never had a problem here either. I would more expect fogging on the edges from lamination separation on the real cheap stuff. Most of the auto glass installers sell decent stuff.

X3! Glass is not all OE quality nor installation done well. Should have both - pay for OE marked on glass.
Poorly done even from new can leak and not see it, freeze and crack, heat of sun crack, fog edges and so on. Rust unseen too.
Just insist on quality - you have to have this right or forever fight with it,

I hear you. Where I am the "authorities" know if your sticker is valid from just scanning your rear plate or front if you have one. No need to stop you just send a bill.

Just looked - GM was using LOF (means Libby Owens Ford) huge in glass anything. PPG is another. Just check another window in the car - I do if I need new glass and cross fingers I don't!

I got the new windshield at safelite back in august ,life time warranty , no leaks but the radio doesn't seem to have the same reception so I took it back , the guy said he found a loose connector at the top towards the passenger side , the reception still seems poor but it's pretty much a cut and dry operation ,it's either hooked up or it's not , what else could they do ?. The guy had to make a call first and he was looking at it for a while , I think he was just coming up with a reason , I mean ,if it wasn't connected it wouldn't pick up anything , it's not like we did a controlled experiment on radio reception but it's not the same .. Is there something after market to attach to that connector and tape to the inside ?

Well here I am a year later with the radio out to be replaced and most of the antenna cable in the open , because I thought the reception almost disappeared after the windshield was replaced I got the multi tester out and here's what I found . The center pin of the car antenna has no continuity with the other end of the antenna cable where it plugs into the windshield part . The outer sleeve of the antenna cable grounds out to the other end of the cable where it plugs into the windshield and it grounds to the cars ground with what said .05 ohms at a 20k setting , the same as a regular light bulb (5 ohms?), Does anyone know if thats normal or if there may be a problem here ? Thanks .

If the center core doesn't have continuity to the other end, then the cable is broken somewhere in between.

That's a pretty rare thing to happen so make sure you are testing it properly.

I thought so but wasn't certain , it starts as a "co axle " at the back of the radio and ends up mono at the windshield , only a few pieces of trim to expose it all , wonder if they'll honor the warranty or if they'll even know what I'm talking about

I followed the antenna cable and it went up the windshield post under the headliner and towards the back , the antenna wire went under the headliner joined up with a body ground to make another cable and the two went towards the back , these plugged into a small box under the headliner by the back window along with the rear antenna and two wires that were white and a white with red neither had a ground or any voltage with the car running . This box had a circuit board and from what I know is an antenna amplifier that is discontinued , I soldered up the connections I needed for a simple junction box and the reception is back , eeeexcelent .now we can get a new stereo and she can plug in the blue tube , mp3po or what ever it is they're into these days .
