So during december, my car rough start up like jackhammering, then check engine light came on anx then when i went to drive it was flashing.... got it towed and found out it was the coil pack hence why i could smell gas/had whiteish smoke. After that is fixed and fast forward to today.
I live in WI so its been hot, cold hot cold. Today is 2/19 and i start it up, it started quicker than normal but was rough, no jackhammering or anything. Its 41 degrees at 9 am. Tho my windshield had all this dew on it... regardless, i could smell gas again so i thought perhaps since it was cooler than yesterday (62) perhaps it was condensation somewhere, i then spy that the CEL is flashing. I turn it off and waited about five minutes.
I turn it back on and it starts fine, runs fine and etc. No flashing CEL or anything. I call the repaor shop who did it and says if it went away then its fine... the shop was recommended by a friend when i had the first issue.
I know as well this tuesday i am having an exhaust place put un a new pipe/mufflar because it started to sound loud and leaked near the tail pipe after th catalytic converter.
So i think i need a second opinion especially since the guy said if the cel isnt on he cant pull the codes... and i know enough about cars to get by but not enough to know better in this situation. Thanks.

computers store codes in HISTORY 'file' and a scanner will access them. But not forever @ 40starts.
There will also be a freeze frame that would help diagnose issue.

Well its only been two starts.... so the guy is bullshi**ing me and i need to take it somewhere just in case this bad start up happens again and the flashing cel comes on again cause like i said its gone now

Thought so. You can't use the word "hot" in that framework.
