I have a 2005 kia sedona with 20k miles and have had the front brakes done twice and the car keeps grinding when stopping and resolves when the brakes are 1st done for about 1000 miles and then come back. Also the caliper pins on the passenger side keep breaking off when the brakes are getting done. Does anyone know what the problem can be besides it being a KIA...Frown

That's a pretty new vehicle for this type of problem. You said 20K on this car. Most brakes last that long.

A big part of doing brakes is lubing up all the moving parts that are metal to metal and the pins in a caliper. Very special grease is use for this that must be rubber compatible.

If one side is wearing faster than another there is a defective part which could be a caliper or even a brake hose.

The broken bolts really confuses me at the age of this vehicle?? I live in a rust belt of the US but things last longer than that!

Also know that there is a wide variety of qualities for brake parts. All should meet OE standards. Another thing is I don't believe in machining/turning brake rotors as they are too thin to begin with and don't behave well when they get thin. There's a legal limit for that too.

I know Kia to be a cost efficient car but if sold in the US or Canada it has to meet some strict standards or they couldn't sell it here, T

i have a 2005 kia sedona with 33,000 miles and have had the brake pads and rotors replaced 2x already and now the same problems- shaking and vibrating when using the brakes. This is not normal and the dealer says there is nothing wrong..
what gives?

You've jumped on an 18 month old thread but not matter.

That's way too early without something wrong. Were rotors replaced with at least OE quality parts? Some aftermarket parts are actually better than OE. I love rotors and drums made my Centric - son't know the availability everywhere. There are legal but very cheaply made replacement that are used to enhance profits but do cause problems.

Any rotor that needs to be machined when new isn't a very good part - lots aren't so good out of the box and you may have had those.

The rotors on many cars is just too thing to start with to take any more off and usually can't go a second round or if attempted they end up warping as thing = more heat and they can't take it.

If Kia isn't helping you (any reader) with brakes wearing out this fast then they should be called on it. Some folks it's the driving habits though.......
