It has no "spring" to it and will not open from the inside. How can I repair it without spending a mint? As for how to do that it’ll take some looking to find the screws (if any) and then carefully pop the snap style of clips, around the perimeter of the panel. The easiest way to get the snaps undone without destroying the panel is with a putty knife. Slide the knife between the panel and the doors frame and gently pry as close to the snap as possible. Once the panel is off it should be obvious as to whether the handle is broken or if the linkage has come undone. You can either go to a junk yard or your local dealer to get a replacement handle. There is a tool that helps from breaking those zip clips but they still break. They are sold at the parts stores. Also, hard to find - if a connector to a rod had let go somtimes some old carb clips will work just fine. They come left and right handed so you need to know. The lack of spring feel makes me feel like Dan said that the handle has an attitude, that might be a Ford only part.
