Are you using the correct tools to unlock the quick couplers? Make sure you blow out quick couplers with compressed air. Sometimes it is good idea to spray some penetrating oil in there and give the couplers a few twists. When you install the tool push the couplers towards the body of the filter and then slide the tool in to unlock the fingers. Sorry it took so long, I was able to get the bigger coupling off the fuel tank side the other smaller one is kicking my butt. I'll try to find some better tools. What a stupid design.

It's not a stupid design. It just takes some finesse with the right tools. Much better than a rubber hose and hose clamps in my opinion. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Not hopeful of getting this thing off. Any suggestion for a simpler fix, like cut that braided part of line off and use rubber hose and clamps?

Take a hack saw and cut the pipe off the fuel filter. Then you can look straight into the coupler and see what is going on. Did you get the proper unlocking tool and blow out the coupler to make sure there isn't garbage in it? NO, don't cut the braided line. This is high pressure line and clamps can't be used. Be careful of sparks if you cut the nipple off the filter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

what do I do the filter will not come off. I need a viable alternative. I've been under there for an hour. The braided line pretty ragged.

The alternative is to get it apart and replace whatever is broken. It will come apart the way DS advised. Cutting the braided line and clamping it is not an option however having it towed to a capable shop is an option.

It would be cheaper to replace the whole line, than pay to tow it, and pay to fix it.

What makes you think you'll be able to disconnect the other end of the line by yourself? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
