I have a 1990 cadilac 4.5 V8. there is a loud tapping noise in the rear top pan which my mechanic said was a lifter not working properly due to lack of Oil pressure at the lifter. The oil pump is fine. The problem started about 3 months ago when i accelarated at a rather aggressive manner, but the tapping at first would last only a couple of days and then go away unil i rev the engine again. At first i thought it could be just Carbon. The thing is now it has been like it for a couple of weeks. My mechanic said that i should not mess with it and leave it alone but it is getting louder by the week. I am half sacred because it might spoil my engine. THE CAR ITSELF IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. It doesnt burn oil at all and has really good compression with plenty of power. I guess my question to you is should i fix this engine or replace it.
