ION SENSING IGNITION

2000 Honda Passport or Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L I really don't have detailed knowledge about the ION ignition systems or the physics that is involved, but I ran into a thread were the OP was looking for the knock sensor. My source data shows the labor time and part cost for a knock sensor, but no procedure or description of the part. I looked at the wiring diagram for the ION module and the PCM. It appears that the ION module has the capability of detecting knocks and sending a signal to the PCM via toggling a transistor in a pull down circuit. Is this true that ION ignition systems on these vehicles don't utilize a physical knock sensor? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It appears that the ION module is simply an ignition module. It turns the COPs off and on with commands from the PCM. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
