Martha L. (Curran) Curran, 90, wife of the late Thomas F. Curran, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in the loving arms of her daughter Martha, son Mark and daughter-in-law Lisa. She was the mother of Thomas Curran of Sunderland, Vt., Martha E. Curran and her husband, Peter Robbins, of Natick, Michael Curran and his wife, Gail, of Ketchikan, Alaska, Mark Curran and his wife, Lisa, of Natick, and Ann Gertner and her husband, Thomas, of Pittsford, N.Y. She also leaves her loving grandchildren, Thomas Curran and his wife, Marie, of Dorset, Vt., Cathleen Curran Cahill and her husband, Liam, of Centreville, Katherine Robbins Pollender and her husband, Jason, of Sturbridge, Elizabeth Robbins and her husband, Simon Connor, of Dublin, Ireland, Martha Ellen Robbins of Chicago, Mark Robbins of Natick, Lisa Curran Pearson and her husband, John, of Ketchikan, Alaska, Jesse Curran Caufield and her husband, Sean, of Phoenix, Ariz., Sarah Curran of Waltham, Christine Curran of Santa Fe, N.M., and Michael Gertner of Pittsford, N.Y. She was the beloved great-grandmother of Melissa and Meghan Curran of Vermont, Emily and Molly Cahill of Centreville, Caity and Conor Pearson of Ketchikan, Alaska, Darcy Eileen Pollender of Sturbridge, and Ellen Kathleen Connor of Dublin, Ireland. Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late John P. Curran and Claire Mahony Curran. After earning her registered nurse degree at St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing in Brighton, she met Thomas F. Curran through the coincidence of their shared surnames. They were married in 1943 and spent the first year of their marriage in Washington, D.C., where Tom was in Navy training and Martha worked at Walter Reed Army Hospital. After the war, they lived in Norwood. They moved to Sudbury in 1950 where they were founding members of Our Lady of Fatima parish. After Tom's death in 1957, Martha returned to nursing and worked in public health for the Natick Visiting Nurse Association, and later, as case manager at Leonard Morse Hospital. She began a new career at age 70 as ombudsperson at the Sudbury Senior Center. The Town of Sudbury, on the occasion of her retirement at age 80, declared Martha Curran Day in her honor. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 160 Concord Road, Sudbury. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., prior the funeral Mass, at the Duckett-J.S.Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Hudson. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Curran should be directed to The Natick Visiting Nurse Association, 209 W.
