Dodge status is bubbling when got but the gage is not indicating any over heating. I know the fan works I can hear and see it kick on, But when the car runs for a bit and the bubbling starts the car dies. I am sure I need a new cap but could but what other problems could there be and how do I check them out to determine which one is the problem.

Bubbling noted you mean at recovery tank? It's overheating - just gauges aren't going to read properly or quickly to tell you with air/vapor throughout the system. You know it need a cap if you mean the pressure cap it would boil over as the pressure raised boiling points mandatory to keep coolant a liquid and not boil. Fix that and fill properly with coolant mix. Pressure check for leaks and hope it didn't cause damage, T

Sounds like you have a blown head gasket pump exhaust gases into the cooling system. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I think so too. OP - know that water alone boils at 212F at sea level. A 50/50 mix without pressure is only a couple degrees more than that not much. Cars (you didn't say model year but don't need it) run at the boiling points so it boiled first or later because of a head gasket as the vapor of boiling air can't cool for crap to would wreck it over a dang pressure cap! If you see the bubble right away upon start up after filling now it smack of just what Hammer Time just said. It's blowing exhaust gases (vapor) into cooling system now either the cause or the result but troubles lurk for sure, T

I would use a cylinder leak down tester or rigged hose that you can attach to a compressor and screw into a spark plug hole to pressurize each cylinder with their respected valves closed and then see if air bubbles show up in the radiator or reservoir. If bubbles show up, you have head gasket, cracked head, or cracked cylinder wall issues. Blowing air into each cylinder will also tell you which cylinder(s) has the breach. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
