Timing Sign In

Hello,

I'm doing a head job/rebuild on a 1995 nissan altima gxe 2.4l with 105k miles on it.

everything was going good in dissasembly until I found out I accidentally marked a washer instead of the Idler Sprocket when I was removing the upper timing chain. This seemingly simple task has cause me a major roadblock because, well, I'm not going to reassemble it knowing the timing isn't right.

I can't access the lower timing chain. There is not enough room and I am working with limited tools.

I am not doing this for fun. I can't find a job and I was on my way to volunteer for an event and my radiator exploded and my car overheated and it warped the head...

I bought a hanyes manual, disassembled it and, like I said, I marked the wrong thing on the timing chain.

I was wondering if there is a way to time it in relation to the marker dots without removing the lower timing chain cover, or at least do a trial and error style approach to figure out if it is timed right and if I try to crank it (when I have it fully reassembled) it won't bend the valves, ruining the automobile.

I have worked on cars before, but nothing this major.

I could really use some help. thanks

Re: Timing Sign In

Before you had removed the cylinder head did you set the crankshaft to number 1 TDC?

The upper chain has links that are colored that go onto dots on the idler and cam gears.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
