Torque converter shudder

My 1997 GrandMarquis is experiencing a bad shudder. I have added a bottle of DrTranny to it , and it seemed to help temporarily. I also added a bottle of Lucas trans fix. It has gone back to shuddering at low speeds around 37 mph. Any ideas on what I should do now? thank you

If you have a transmission flush done on your car, it will probably cure it. A lot of times the cooler will get crud in it and it just keeps flowing through the system. Or you can drain the transmission fluid, including the torque converter, and get a flush kit for the transmission cooler to do it yourself. It is messy and time consuming. And will cost just about as much as having a flush completed. Good luck with it. Also be sure the spark plugs and wires are in good shape. A slight misfire will give same symptoms.

I have had a transmission fluid exchange done a few months ago at Firestone for about $100 bucks. Could this crud be stuck in the lines, and should I just flush the lines out? thanx

How long did it take after the fluid flush before the shuddering started again? If they did a complete flush, they should have cleaned the entire system. I don't think flushing the lines will help any.

It was approximately 2 months later. I put DrTranny shudder fix in there, but now it shudders really bad. What is your suggestion as to what I should do now? because it's really bad. Thanx for your help!

You can either try another complete flush, or you need to replace the lock up solenoid or the torque converter. Replacement will be expensive, but it is the way to cure it. If you have it flushed, go somewhere that will not do a hurry up job. Also, have you addressed the possibility that a plug may be breaking down? We hjave seen a lot of engine misses mimick the same thing. Good luck. Wish I had a magic cure.
