01 Dodge Durango 4X4 4.7L 159,ooo miles. This truck is really startin to irritate me. I heard a low pitch roar comin from the front end while on a recent road trip. Once i got it home i replaced the driver side hub assembly, took it for a test drive and i still heard the noise. So i grabbed the hub i took off the driver side and put it on da other side, took it for a test drive and i still hear the noise. i climbed underneath and took a closer look at the front end and noticed my passenger side cv shaft had a rip in it and was spittin grease everywhere, so i replaced it, but im still hearin this noise. Will someone please help me out, im all out of ideas

In my experience CV joints don't "roar" but rather crackle or popping mostly when turning or a 'clack" when really worn. The boot keeps the dirt out which eventually would wreck the joint. Whole unit is frequently easier and cheaper than trying to replace just the boot and if dirt already got in the damage is done.
You replaced and swapped a hub. Noise persisted. If that hub had new bearings which is what I think the issue is then it should have changed when put on other side. Spin the old one wheel and all with everything in neutral and you'll find which one is the trouble.
It's mystical but bearing growls can transfer to opposite side and fool you. With one making the noise you described you would have felt it in your hands. Bearing should spin smooth as glass with no sound or feel at all,

In addition to the checks Tom suggested, take a good look at your tires. If the tread gets choppy it can make the same noise a bad bearing makes......

Thanks again Sidom! I need a slap - YES - tires can make noises that sound EXACTLY like real mechanical problems especially 4X4 vehicles,

now instead of a roar, it sounds like a howling coming from the rear end. i had my buddy drive while i stuck my head out the window and it sounds like its comin from the rear and possibly even the drive shaft. i just replaced the fluid in the diff. last summer and checked the level today and it was still perfect. so does anybody have anymore ideas?

Does the sound change with applying or backing off throttle or swerving left or right?

i just went for a test drive and the noise did not change while turning or while giving it throttle, it is consistant with vehicle speed and does not occur while sitting in park or sitting still in neutral. only while vehicle is in gear and moving

About the only thing in the differential that would act that way would be the side carrier bearings but it could be in the transmission also.
