my z71 idles really low when setting still about every 5 sec. when doing this it trys to shut it's self down. What may be the cause of this problem?

To start it could be a several different things,just a shot in the dark ,the fuel filter, dirty air filter,even a dirty throttle body. Has the check engine light came on? If it has it could hold an answer to your problem within the stored trouble codes. Even a simple tune-up could fix it.
