looking for a used car

Hey everyone I've just started looking for a car and my price range is really low, anywheres between 800 and 2000 at most. I live in the Northern NJ area and am not really having much luck at all, mostly cause I don't really know what I'm looking for nor do I have any real knowledge of cars. I'm looking for a car with decent milage on it about 30k shy of a 100k. I need it to be reliable for at least a yr or 2 with minor repairs nothing that will run me bankrupt with in the first year of having it. I'm looking for something decently compact and fuel effecient. So far what i've seen in my price ranges that have the milage criteria are ford taurus' yrs 90 - 98. Any good advice about them? Well all the information that you guys could help me out would be absolutely wonderful and if you know anyone selling a car like that within the North NJ area let me know. thanks again -Eric

The price range is tough and even spending more doesn't really guarantee a more dependable car. Hard to pick a brand in the used market. Most cars that look and drive well with no obvious problems are a good bet. Good luck with the search, T
