transmission problem

1988 ford f-150 4x4,351 winzor motor, automatic tran: fuel injected,;;;my tansmission started acting up today,i was driving it and the only way it would shift was to let off the gas peddle,i dont know what the heck would be doing this but it just started today.could someone please let me know what could be causing this??i checked the fluid and its reading so i know its not that,im up for any suggestions anyone may have here.

Check and fix any vacuum leaks you can find. General era use what looks like a large SOUP can for vacuum storage which can rust, assorted hoses and connections in lots of places. Also look right where throttle cable attaches at the throttle body and watch it's action. There's a second cable there to pull tell trans the postion of the throttle to help downshift and could make upshifts late if it's not free. If all dirty in area clean that up for a better look. These things for now for starters, T
