1996 kawasaki vulcan 1500 shaft

1996 kawasaki vulcan 1500 shaft Sign In

i have a 96 vulcan its been sitting for a while got it running today after cranking for a while . rode it for about a half hour . when i went to ride it again about an hour later it wouldnt move. neutral light went out felt like it went in to gear but when i let out the clutch nothing. acts like clutch is still pulled in. with motor off put into gear it still rolls freely. .... HELP

Does this bike have a hydraulic clutch or cable?

HYDRALIC.....just fired it up and it went..????? sat for a couple hours

loosen and then tighten the bleeder screw to see if there is residual pressure in your system that isn't venting back. A hose collapsed internally or plugged compensating port in the master cylinder can do this. If that doesn't make it engage, try actually removing the slave cylinder. If your clutch couples at that point you have a hung up slave. If still no luck you will be looking at an extensive teardown and repair of your clutch assembly.

i was also told this by someone else he said to rebuild the clutch slave cylinder....try that thanks

rebuilt slave and put in new fluid and bled...bike rode good for about an hour then clutch was dragging (slipping)got worse...turn bike off and it wouldnt engage at all when started back up...allowed it to cool for about an hour an ran good then started slipping again... repeated this process to get bike home...

Put it up on a stand to get the drive tire in the air when this is happening and crack open the bleeder on the slave. Sounds like the rubber hose to it is collapsing internally and when its heated from your engine swells up enough to not let the pressure bleed back into the master cylinder through its compensating ports. If the clutch engages when you do that test it confirms it.

Replace the rubber hose and bleed out the system. Easy fix and you can get back to riding.

If you have the kit and want to do that at the same time go for it. I don't see masters cause this issue much but its possible.

didnt rebuild master cylinder but i did clean out return port (tiny holes in master cylinder)with a thin wire.. took it apart and blew it out ....bled the line and rode all day today with no problems. system had gunky build up through out but didnt clean out the small hole well originally. thanks for responding.
