8 hp Briggs stattton engine no fuel

Good day guys. I have yet another stumper. This is a good one for you to figure out. 8 HP briggs statton engine on a coleman generator. Non running when i got it. Whats been done: new spark plug, fresh rebuild on a flojet carb, new oil, new head gasket torqued correctly, new in tank grommet-fuel shut off valve with new fuel line and inline fuel filter from tank to carb. Problem: starts on second pull every time, runs prefect 15-20 minutes everytime, after 15-20 minutes sound of engine changes slightly, still runs fine, after 20 minutes fuel in see through fuel filter starts to diminish. This is a gravity fed system. engine will run until fuel filter is dry. Removing fuel hose from tank show full flow from shut off valve, removing fuel hose from carb shows full flow. Unrestricted fuel flow. Reconnect all hose ends filter refills engine starts runs till filter dries up again. My first thoughts were: restricted vent in fuel cap. Wrong, put on known good cap no change. Ran machine with no cap, no change. I then thought excessive heat from muffler just above fuel line connection at carb. I installed 8 inches of insulaton between fuel line and muffler, no change. Any suggestion? Thanks

Speak for my own assorted stuff about jus this stuff if some neat OLD thing pre much for info or stickers all over the thing. It can't take even the least bit of Ehanol in fuel should be marked but even if so or not if periodic use rig it to run dry. Other if you want to be able to use this just emergency use get serious and buy "equipment" fuel or where I am illegal (dang state) so buy it in cans pay a fortune by the quart the stull lasts though marked as alcohol free fuel - some carb things of the sort do want to be wet not dry after being wet with fuel so check the stuff now and then, run them if a needed thing run it ever few months or forget owning one it will constantly bug you when or if you need the thing, T

Is it possible you have the filter backwards? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Filter has a directional arrow and fuel flows from the outer portion in through filter.

Just this on fuel filters: Toss the in-line ones especially ones you cut to size of hose. They fail routinely on me + my own stuff. IDK but again blame ethanol first as if tested or blown thru they work again?? Any could just fail for any assorted reason you said it quits getting fuel so if not carb something or tank (dirt, rust and you said sure it vents) can't vent works again when cap removed and just put back many if just that? ? What to do? Things were better with brass screens than paper filters haven't seen one in light-years now. Note that you see thru this one many are that way. Arrow means the way it flows best and longer with debris if new, good fuel wouldn't matter for quite a while to be intermittent like this run fine for a few minutes then quit for lack of fuel. In fact redo that whole line with approved line and know it's approved line no guessing the small engine crap isn't easily marked both fuel and alcohol tolerant rub a cut end on finger if you find dark smear it's NG - been there done that with this sh*t on flippin' small engine stuff not clearly known made to tolerate all types of fuels and oils. OMG even plastics don't! If when possible test line/plastics in same fuel in glass jar out of harm's way see what it looks like in a week you'll find out, T

I know you said you disconnected the carb end of the line and it flowed good but did you let it flow for a while to confirm it continues to flow? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Hmmm? In fact do that again and this time let it empty the tank without touching the gas cap - could be right back to your first thought? Tom

8Hp briggs stratton engine with lack of fuel flow fixed.. I have never in my life seen this but it fixed the problem. As suggested i changed out the 5/16 in fuel line and fuel filter. I installed 1/4 in fuel line with a 2/3 smaller fuel filter, emptied the tank and refueled with 100% gas. Longest run time 47 minutes.. Fuel filter stayed full, engine never missed a lick. Its good to go!! Thanks again for the info.
