I NEED HELP CHOOSING A REAREND FOR MY 1951 CHEVY 3600 PICKUP. IM BUILDING A DRIVER AND PUTTING A 350 IN IT. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD FIT FOR IT. ID LIKE SOMETHING WITH 373 GEARS POSSIBLY OR SOMETHING CLOSE, BUT I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR A CAMARO, NOVA, CAPRICE REAREND OR WHAT? I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST FIT UNDER THE TRUCK WITHOUT ALOT OF MODIFICATIONS. I WANNA TO KEEP THE CHEVY BOLT PATTERN 5- 4 3/4. ANY ADVICE OR HELP WOULD BE GREAT, THANKS

They dont make a 3600 truck . im sure you meant 3500. Why would you want to put a car axle under a 1 ton truck ? Hit the salvage yards with the measurements from your existing axle ,such a total width , spring platforms etc It may be hard to find a used 3500 axle . They go fast.

Of course your right .Blush I had late model on the brain .My apoligies. I still would think twice about puttting a passenger car axle under irt . Find a late model 3/4 ton axle . It should be more available than the 1ton . To set things right ,here is a tip I ran aross .

heres your tip;

  • 1947-1954 Rear Spring Alignment Tech Tip from Ron Hansen
    Wakefield, Massachusetts

    Alignment Solution for Installing a Late Model Rear End in a 1947-1954 Pick Up
    On the original rear end, the spring centerbolt is offset to the front of the spring by 2″to 3″. If you install a modern rear end (with an open driveshaft) and retain the original springs, the wheels will end up offset forward (inside) of the original wheel openings in the fenders. To correct this problem, remove the original springs and reverse them end to end (front to back) as they are the same on both ends. This will bring the spring centerbolt to the rear of the axle and place the new rear end in the center of the fender wheel openings.

    Hello, I have a 3600 driver and wanted to know if you figured out the rear end problem. As you know, the gearing is not good for the highway speeds of today. Mine wines bad at 55 or so with the engine rpm really up there. I want to find a different gear ratio instead of changing it out. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
