Don't understand what you are doing here. If your removing the tank, it comes out the bottom. You don't need to remove the bed.

Very common removing the bed AKA the guido method- -
If I remember the tank stayed, the pump was removed out the top -
Plan B remove fuel linew, elec connector the rear straps- loosen front strap, NOT frame bracket - slide tank rear as needed for clearance

This is a PIA job we always recommend a OEM pump

I agree you can take the bed off to get to the fuel pump. If the tank is rusted inside or has crap floating around in the bottom, the tank is going to have to come out.

I personally recommend washing the tank out before installing you new fuel pump. The sock on the bottom doesn't filter everything. One of the primary reasons for premature replacement pump failure is contamination with stuff other than fuel.

Fuel pump out the top................ fuel tank out the bottom.

Please don't edit your original question after we have read it. It just makes it too confusing. Just make another post for additional info.

Not sure why my buddy took the bed off...just need to figure out how to get the strap off , cut it maybe? most of the gas has been drained from the tank? looks like replacement straps are cheap and easy to get....so i guess the follow up would be "how" to the strap off?
