My 1995 Ford F250 will not start but only occasionally. She has a 5.8L engine with 280K miles. The battery is good, already replaced the solenoid. Today she started fine, I drove 5 miles, shut her off, and when I tried to restart all I get is the click of the solenoid. No whine of the starter at all. Oddly sooner or later she will fire up.

That's very typical of bad battery cable connections. All must be good, at battery, solenoid you just replaced, at the starter and the ground end of negative cable. All are only as good as the weakest link. If clock and or radio pre-set reset that's a strong clue of that. If it still does it then the starter itself would be the next suspect item to me. If so, many will respond to a careful tap on body of starter with a hammer but don't go nuts with that trick. If that instantly snaps it out of that then a new starter is the practical fix and if not it's not conclusive - yet, T
