What are the compression numbers?
What is the fuel pressure while your cranking the engine?
Can the spark jump at least 3/4 inch gap?

Was there any recent repair work done prior to your issue?
Any trouble codes stored in the engine computer? If so, what are the numbers?
Will the engine run if you spray starting fluid into the throttle body?

compression is between 170 and 180 between all 8
fuel pressure is 65

You aren't conclusive yet. DS asked if you tested with starting fluid - so did you? Fuel pressure is fine and compression so two down two to go. Is it delivering fuel you don't know or if spark is good not just your say so IS IT ABLE TO JUMP a large gap with a tester best.

If you are just holding a plug attached to a wire and grounding the threads that's not enough yet for a no start problem,

Are you checking for spark at the coil or at the plugs?

Nothing!

Hmmmm - Codes read and post #s if possible?

It should have at least backfired or something if all that was correct. Recent work if any? Anything before this for a clue?

Is oil smelling of fuel and too full -- plugs gas fouled? It's possible to flood out bad enough alone on some that when soaked plugs will take the spark but ground out spark thru wet porcelain insulator not make the jump and a real spark. Might show a jump on a plug but not under compression. That or spark it totally off time.

It's not that common to flood out that bad but on the check list for wet plugs or gas odor in oil evidence. New OE plugs might make it react but the cause isn't solved.

You can't mess with timing on this engine or turn it and if so that's your trouble IMO for now and why it was messed with at all a cause still lurking.

I'd check for serious flooding evidence now and get codes too when possible,

So, when you say no repairs in the last 5 years, you confirm that NO ONE has touched the distributor or tried to set the timing?
